AFA poll will not be sent to congress.
Conservative group quietly drops plans for poll

The conservative American Family Association (AFA) said it will not take the results of its marriage poll to Capitol Hill after a majority of respondents favored same-sex marriage, according to a Thursday report in Wired News.
The AFA posted the poll online in December with a stated intention to forward the results to Congress as evidence of U.S. opposition to same-sex marriage. Respondents could select one of these three choices:
"I favor legalization of homosexual marriage."
"I favor a 'civil union' with the full benefits of marriage except for the name."
"I oppose legalization of homosexual marriage and 'civil unions.'"
But as of press time, the numbers support same-sex unions: Sixty percent favored same-sex marriage and 8 percent favored civil unions, leaving just 32 percent opposed.
AFA representative Buddy Smith complained to Wired News: "It just so happens that homosexual activist groups around the country got a hold of the poll -- it was forwarded to them -- and they decided to have a little fun, and turn their organizations around the country (on to) the poll to try to cause it to represent something other than what we wanted it to. And so far, they succeeded with that."
Matt Foreman, the Executive Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Taskforce was dumbfounded. "The abject hypocrisy of these people never ceases to amaze me," he exclaimed.
"They constantly manipulate facts, and when things don't work out as they want, they run to mama and whine."
On Jan. 6, the Gay.com/PlanetOut.com Network discussed the AFA poll with expert Bob Witeck, who said that since it was not a scientific survey, its results could not be considered meaningful data. According to Witeck, legitimate polls show support for gay marriage somewhere between 40 to 50 percent -- and growing.

Does this "Buddy" Smith, and the organization behind him, have any idea what democracy is all about?
I'm sure more than one person who read what he had to say, raised an eyebrow at the "to try to cause it to represent something other than what we wanted it to" part of his quote.
Is that what polls are in his mind, implements rigged in order to provide the preferred answer? Christ almighty, that's a scary thought!
Surely it's not just me who wonders why these people feel they lose something by letting others gain what they already have, ie, the right to marry. So far, I've not had any kind of satisfactory answer to that, only statements to the effect it is 'against the natural order of things', or 'a menace to society' (maybe not expressed in such theatrical terms, but the message is there alright). Sometimes we get confused, select quotations from scripture, as if that's supposed to convince anyone...
It's sad, that's what it is. Humanity needs to evolve beyond this stupid conformist attitude. Everybody does NOT need to be the same, think the same, act the same.
Bit like how they're ridiculing Howard Dean for that silly scream of his (ot at least that's what I think his name is, hehe). So he screamed, so what! If these people don't have anything BETTER to attack him with than that scream of his, then that shows what a bunch of sad, sore losers THEY are, hehehe.
Okay, now I'm gonna put my fish gratin in the oven so I can eat dinner before it's too darn late in the evening... Thanks for the heads-up on the outcome of the poll, E.J!

Timmy, I so agree !!!!! I am sending two to three letters/polls/emails to my congressmen and senators every week or two. If we don't stay in touch with them and continue pushing these issues, then they won't know we are out here.
That I can't share the same benefits of marriage that I did when I was married to a woman is just obscenely short sighted and prejudiced to me. I haven't changed, other than accept that I am gay and embrace my lifestyle. If I shared them at one time with my ex wife, shouldn't I be able to share them with anyone I am in a committed relationship with???
We need to stop this incessant prejudice against us. Please, Please, Please everyone... I know it is a pain, but contact your congressmen and senators if you are in the U.S. You can find their names, addresses, and telephone numbers in the phone book.
One note... when we sign on to mass mailings (like from HRC), it does reach congressmen and senators, but because they are mass mailings, they are not looked at like individual emails, phone calls and letters.
Love and Hugs to Everyone !!!!!!!!!
