Timmy has asked me to continue with this series. He says the last one was too difficult. Maybe he's right.

Anyway, here is this week's "Famous Gay". Who is this guy and what do we know about him?

(If this isn't easy I don't know what is! Wink)

Wow. Glad this one is dead because he won a libel actin against a US Mmedia corporation that accused him of being homosexual. He won and got damages! Now that's like the Pope suing for being accused of being a Catholic.

I loathed his act, but I recognised him as a consumate performer. What a showman! And how yuck was the act!

... an institution to at least three generation of concert goers.

Simplay an amazing perforer; but, he definitely needed to get a life.

As a child, I remember watching, this would be 1955 or thereabouts, his one and only ever) weekly Television show (that's right folks, his legendary performing career actually began with his doing a half-hour "Songs by request" format programme) which incidently was somewhat of a veritable milestone of its' time, being, namely:

1) the the very first ever filmed directly on vidéo-tape
2) the first ever produced entirely in "colour" although it was only ever broadcast in "Black and white", and
3) the precurso to what we have came to know as the ubiquitos "syndicated" Televison show.
4) His "trademark" Candelabra made it's appearance on that programme, mid way through the first season.

Simply amazing, or what?

I've recently been able to view some of those early vidéo-tapes, and I have to admit, he certainly in his youth was one fine looking dude, and definitely looked better in s plain unadorned Tuxedo; and yes, his mother was considered to be a royal pain in the ass even then by the people involved in outting the show together.

Alrighty heres the skinny on our man LIberace. He is actually from Wisconsin (don't all the best come from there) Born in 1919, and he died in 1987 ( the year I was born) He died from AIDS.

Apparently he was a super extravagnet stage performer. He wore lots of brightly colored outfits and was a classicly trained pianist. Originally his performances were all classical with a little pop mixed in but he changed it to being all pop, with a hint of classical. Pop sells better ya know?

This homey had some problems, he sued a newspaper company becuase they basically called him a ay homosexual faery, except in many more words. So this LIberace dude seued them for a whole lot of money. He said very emphatically that he wasn't gay, was never gay, and never did jack with another guy.

Thats all well and good, except he apparently had a boy friend named Scott Thorson, poor Scott. He was upset, and sued Libearace for a whole lot of money like 113 million or so, they only gave him 95,000 though, most of his claims were dismissed as being stupid.

He died of AIDS the year I was born in california.

Actually, you really have to SEE Liberace perform to believe it.

>>He died of AIDS the year I was born in california.<<

Er, harumph: Did he die in California or were you born in California? Maybe it was both?

Very Happy
