Rise From The Ashes by QuietDrive

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFGQQOQCcpI

I've felt this way before
I fell right through the floor
And I am certain I've become
Broken, bruised, and numb
Would you restate your opinion
And hold back your investigation
Do you see the sins you're making
Because I've made them all before

I will now rise from the ashes
Don't call me pretentious
I'm sitting here making my own rules
And if I fall from the ceiling
You'll be down there waiting
And my only hope
Is falling down

And by my own admission
You'll find that my condition
Is worse than you've imagined
You're better off if you know
That every time before that I
Have tried to measure pain inside
You can't ignore it
Right now I can't ignore it

I will now rise from the ashes
Don't call me pretentious
I'm sitting here making my own rules
And if I fall from the ceiling
You'll be down there waiting
To finish me

It's settling inside of me

I'll take my heart
And rip my feelings out
Before they make me doubt
And I'll fall down with flames burning
Alive again
As long as you know that

I will now rise from the ashes
Don't call me pretentious
I'm sitting here making my own rules
And if I fall from the ceiling
You'll be down there waiting
To finish me
Finish me

So say what you want
(You know I'm wasting all my time)
You've gotta mean it when you say what you want
(You're only safe when you're alone)
And everybody's on your mind
Saying anything to get you by

I read the news today oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph.
He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure
If he was from the House of Lords.

I saw a film today oh boy
The English Army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
but I just had to look
Having read the book.
I'd love to turn you on

Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
Somebody spoke and I went into a dream

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall.
I'd love to turn you on

A song that's been a favourite of mine for many years - dating back to my hippy-influenced teens - is "Your mind and we belong together" by Love (led by the late great Arthur Lee - in his youth, one of the most truly sexy humans of all time).

Promo movie (it pre-dates video by a couple of decades) on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9qKjrwD7Pc

Lyrics:

I'd like to understand just why
I feel like I have been through hell
But you tell me I haven't even started yet
To live here you've got to give more than you get
That I know
But they said it's all right

I'd like to understand today
Then maybe I would know who I was
When I was when it was yesterday
The seasons and the reasons are on display
And I know
Oh... Oh........... Oh...........

Bridge 1
So many people
They just seem to clutter up my mind
And if it's mine throw it away
Throw it again once for my girl...friend

Bridge 2
So many voices
Don't let them stop between my ears
But it appears that there they are
Though they are wrong ten thousand strong, oh, yeah

Bridge 3:
I'm lockin' my heart in the closet
I don't need anyone, oh no no no
You find me behind the door
And all of the far-out faces
From long ago, I can't erase this

I so often look to the future, when I look at the now too intently I tend to get depressed. As the words of the song says planting seed. We are in reality all facades (so I’ll add two songs though it would be hard for me to nail it down to one fav or even two) nevertheless be at peace cuz it is only our own selves we need worry about. We are all in a constant state of flux all be it very slow.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM-tMyPEh4Y

We're playing those mind games together,
Pushing barriers, planting seeds,
Playing the mind guerilla,
Chanting the Mantra peace on earth,
We all been playing mind games forever,
Some kinda druid dudes lifting the veil.
Doing the mind guerilla,
Some call it the search for the grail,
Love is the answer and you know that for sure,
Love is flower you got to let it, you got to let it grow,
So keep on playing those mind games together,
Faith in the future outta the now,
You just can't beat on those mind guerillas,
Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind,
Yeah we're playing those mind games forever,
Projecting our images in space and in time,
Yes is the answer and you know that for sure,
Yes is the surrender you got to let it, you got to let it go,
So keep on playing those mind games together,
Doing the ritual dance inn the sun,
Millions of mind guerrillas,
Putting their soul power to the karmic wheel,
Keep on playing those mind games forever,
Raising the spirit of peace and love, not war,
(I want you to make love, not war, I know you've heard it before)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXyX45A0Alk

love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

love, I don't like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
the heat I see in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes

People will tell you where they've gone
They'll tell you where to go

Hey Guys, I haven't posted in here for a while but seeing as lurkers are coming out of the woodwork - Here's something that is in our news tonight.

The worry is that some of those songs are my all-time favourites. Any idea what that could mean?

Long time no hear. I was surprised to see "I know I'll never find another ewe" wasn't on the list. ;-D ;-D ;-D

Welcome back anyway. Stick around or we are going to get swamped by these Northerners.

Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRgZaUr7Wos

I have a picture pinned to my wall
an image of you and of me
And we're laughin' with love at it all.
Look at our life now
tattered and torn

We fuss and we fight and delight in the tears
That we cry until dawn.

Oh
oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart

Stay with me
let lovin' start
let lovin' start.
You say I'm a dreamer
we're two of a kind

Both of us searching for some perfect world
We know we'll never find.
So perhaps I should leave here
yeah-yeah
go far away

But you know that there's nowhere
That I'd rather be than with you here today.
Oh
oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
Stay with me
let lovin' start
let lovin' start.
You say I'm a dreamer
we're two of a kind

Oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
Stay with me
let lovin' start
let lovin' start.
You say I'm a dreamer
we're two of a kind

You asked if I love you
what can I say?
You know that I do and that this is just one of those games that we play.
So I'll sing you a new song
please
don't cry anymore

I'll even ask your forgiveness though I don't know
Just what I'm asking it for.
Oh
oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
Stay with me
let lovin' start
let lovin' start.
You say I'm a dreamer
we're two of a kind

Oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
Stay with me
let lovin' start
let lovin' start.
You say I'm a dreamer
we're two of a kind

Oh
hold me now. Oh
warm my heart
Stay with me
let lovin' start
let lovin' start.
You say I'm a dreamer
we're two of a kind

Oh
hold me now. Oh
Stay with me
let lovin' start
let lovin' start.
You say I'm a dreamer
we're two of a kind

All the loves from the past, I visit there from time to time. Here's one that takes me on time trips.

Now I'll just mosey back on over to the "headlands of the foot hills."::-)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_mTnOs0QYk

It's all too much
It's all too much
When I look into your eyes
You love is there for me
And the more I go inside
the more there is to see

It's all too much for me to take
the love that's shining all around you
Everywhere it's what you make for us to take
it's all too much

Floating down the stream of time
form life to life with me
Makes no difference where you are
or where you'd like to be

It's all too much for me to take
the love that's shining all around you
All the world is birthday cake
so take a piece but not too much

Sell me on a silver sun
where I know that I'm free
Show me that I'm everywhere
and get me home for tea

It's all too much for me to see
the love that's shining all around you
The more I learn, the less I know
and what I do it's all too much

It's all too much for me to take
the love that's shining all around you
Everywhere it's what you make for us to take
it's all too much

It's all too much
It's all too much

With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue
With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue
You're too much

People will tell you where they've gone
They'll tell you where to go
But till you get there yourself you never really know
Where some have found their paradise
Other's just come to harm

Fabulous clip - thanks for reminding me of the Thompson Twins!

I did a fair number of gigs with them at student events around 1980, and the band were always a joy to work with. I have a lot of their stuff on vinyl, which I rarely listen to - you may have inspired me to dig it out for another listen.

I wasn't going to join in this thread because my tastes in popular music are so different from others', but then I thought to myself "Why not?"

This is a ballad by my favourite pop singer, Gilbert Bécaud. You've probably never heard of him. The words are in French, of course: I've provided a translation, which like all translations of this kind of stuff really does a disservice to the original. It seems to me that the 'message' of the song reflects some recent threads here.

When you're alone on your own star,
When you watch the trains go by,
When you drink with ne'er-do-wells,
When you keep on writing to your mother,
When you think about making economies,
When you make up prayers to the gods of comedy,

It means that you need
Someone, something,
Some place,
That you don't have, that you don't have.
It means that you need
Someone, or a love,
Or maybe just a friend
That you have been waiting for for a long while.

When you're alone on your own star
You don't notice time running on.
You're in heat and you settle down
Like a horse about to die.
When you tell all about your childhood
To people who don't listen,
When you dress yourself up because it's Sunday
And then you don't go anywhere

It means that you need
Someone, something,
Some place,
That you don't have, that you don't have.
It means that you need
Someone, or a love,
Or maybe just a friend
That you have been waiting for for a long while.

When you're alone on your own star
There are times when God is good,
When there are two of you on your star:
It's crazy, but you are happy.

No longer do you need someone
Something. somewhere:
You're crazy, you're crazy.

A sad song, Eric Clapton's beautiful "Tears in Heaven".
To me it will always be about the loss of a young friend.

http://www.noolmusic.com/blogs/YouTube_Music_Videos_80s_90s_-_Eric_Clapton_-_Tears_In_Heaven.shtml

    Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
    Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

    I must be strong
    And carry on,
    'Cause I know I don't belong
    Here in heaven.

    Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
    Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?

    I'll find my way
    Through night and day,
    'Cause I know I just can't stay
    Here in heaven.

    Time can bring you down,
    Time can bend your knees.
    Time can break your heart,
Have you begging please, begging please.

    Beyond the door,
    There's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more
    Tears in heaven.

    Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
    Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

    I must be strong
    And carry on,
    'Cause I know I don't belong
    Here in heaven.

With a Cute Vid too.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bdF_73aqmM

Lyrics:

When I see your smile
Tears run down my face I can't replace
And now that I'm stronger I've figured out
How this world turns cold and breaks through my soul
And I know I'll find deep inside me I can be the one

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

It's ok. It's ok. It's ok.
Seasons are changing
And waves are crashing
And stars are falling all for us
Days grow longer and nights grow shorter
I can show you I'll be the one

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

Cuz you're my, you're my, my true love, my whole heart
Please don't throw that away
Cuz I'm here for you
Please don't walk away,
Please tell me you'll stay, stay

Use me as you will
Pull my strings just for a thrill
And I know I'll be ok
Though my skies are turning gray

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

Prayer Of The Refugee
Rise Against

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4bsSJiBDLQ

Warm yourself by the fire, son,
And the morning will come soon.
I’ll tell you stories of a better time,
In a place that we once knew.

Before we packed our bags
And left all this behind us in the dust,
We had a place that we could call home,
And a life no one could touch.

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You won't let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Down!

We are the angry and the desperate,
The hungry, and the cold,
We are the ones who kept quiet,
And always did what we were told.

But we’ve been sweating while you slept so calm,
In the safety of your home.
We’ve been pulling out the nails that hold up
Everything you’ve known.

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

So open your eyes child,
Let’s be on our way.
Broken windows and ashes
Are guiding the way.

Keep quiet no longer,
We’ll sing through the day,
Of the lives that we’ve lost,
And the lives we’ve reclaimed.

Go!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up…
(I don’t need your help, I’ll stand my ground)
Don’t hold me up…
(I don’t need your help)
No! No!
Don’t hold me up!
(I don’t need your help, I’ll stand my ground)
Don’t hold me up!
(I don’t need your help, I’ll stand my ground)
Don’t hold me down, down, down, down, down!

I've been trying to post on this thread ever since it had been posted but it seems as though none of my "favorite" songs (really, songs that struck me at some point in time) have been on youtube or any other video site that I could find. Well, I was eating today and I usually flip on the television when I eat and the movie The Royal Tennenbaums was playing and then the song "Lullabye" by Emitt Rhodes played. This is a really lovely song (although it's a bit sad) and there is a video of it on youtube. The sound quality isn't great and the video looks to be put together of clips from some NBC show but it's still a lovely song.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=tLLjKwIBTcA

Emitt Rhodes - Lullabye.

Tears that angels cry
And they darken all the sky
When the one you love says good-bye
Tears that angels cry

Sing a lullabye
Sing it soft and only sigh
When the one you love says good-bye
Sing a lullabye

When your love still is strong
When the one you love is gone

It's always the old to lead us to the war
It's always the young to fall
Now look at all we've won with the sabre and the gun
Tell me is it worth it all
~Phil Ochs "I Aint Marching Anymore"

Decipher Reflections From Reality
By Play Radio Play

I like this song cuz i can relate to it

My parachute didn't open
and when my back up failed
the pixie dust prevailed
and i woke up next to you
all i wanted was to hold you

i was born in a city
however small
it held a hospital
for location where i came into being
it was all down hill from there

what do you do
when your lifes a disaster
and your moving faster
and its getting harder to breathe

what do you say
if some is right but
you disagree
even if its the truth

i was told you are depressed
by a little bird
that was severly hurt
as it did not notice my window
it just flew wherever the wind blows
as it convulsed on the pavement
it whispered i am hated
your genetic flaws
i said say it all
you cant decipher reflections form reality
but neither can i

i noticed neither can i
i noticed neither can i
i noticed neither can i

you are the circle
i am the square
i have the none cut
you have the cool hair
we both take showers
for almost an hour
but only once a week or two

what do you do
when your lifes a disater
and your moving faster
and its getting harder to breathe

what do you say
if someone is right but
you disagree even if its the truth

So say what you want
(You know I'm wasting all my time)
You've gotta mean it when you say what you want
(You're only safe when you're alone)
And everybody's on your mind
Saying anything to get you by

Im Here Again
Inside You
Its So Good Staying Here
But I Stay A Short While
I Float Around In Underwater Hibernation
In A Hotel Connected To The Electricity Board And Nourishing
Tyoowoohoo
But The Wait Makes Me Uneasy I Kick The Fragility Away
And Shout I Have To Go - Help
Tyoowoohoo
I Explode Out And The Peace Is Gone
Bathed In New Light
I Cry And I Cry - Disconnected
A Ruined Brain Put On Breasts
And Fed By Sleepwalkers

People will tell you where they've gone
They'll tell you where to go
But till you get there yourself you never really know
Where some have found their paradise
Other's just come to harm

You fill up my senses,
Like a night in a forest.
Like the mountains in springtime,
like a walk in the rain.
Like a storm in a desert,
like a sleepy blue ocean.
You fill up my senses,
Come fill me again

Come let me love you,
let me give my life to you.
Let me drown in your laughter,
Let me die in your arms.
Let me lay down beside you,
Let me always be with you.
Come let me love you,
Come love me again.

John Denver (may he rest in peace)

FIGHT THE SKY
by Gavin Mikhail
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsP2NdbOL7Y

You fight the daily battles of a million things created of and around what you fear and know and fear not knowing we get thrown into the face of a thousand trains you've trained upon our ears here we are here we are still listening... And you fight the good fight to win until the death over a thing that doesn't care carry any weight at all and doesn't even know it signed up for duty in a war that you created built with the help of those who didn't care but gave you tools supplies and dared you "build a place to hide your fear..."

I will watch you fight the sky
You make them run and hide
You wait for it to die now
I will watch you fight the sky
You make them run and hide
I'll watch you fight the sky now...

I will watch you fight the sky and wait for it to die and we wait and we wait and we wait for a strong wind to pick you up and rip the pain and slam it down into a wall it can't climb up get past knock down and so we wait... Pick your battles save your force for the fights that really matter but still you demand waiting for the world to understand and to care to know to love and yes to give a damn so if it runs may it hide I will watch you fight the sky...

I will watch you fight the sky
You make them run and hide
You wait for it to die now
I will watch you fight the sky
You make them run and hide
I'll watch you fight the sky now...

The color's changing now the dim light shifting to those across the world who don't know don't care don't worry if you've won... So tell me if it changes fixes curses or remains all the ones you left behind keep nearer still and remind that asking means fighting means winning needs doing and you have won oh now you have won... That asking means fighting means winning needs doing and you have won it all...

I will watch you fight the sky
You make them run and hide
You wait for it to die now
I will watch you fight the sky
You make them run and hide
I'll watch you fight the sky now...

You fight the daily battles of a million things created of and around what you fear and know and fear not knowing we get thrown into the face of a thousand trains you've trained upon our ears here we are here we are still listening...

From the album: "Use Your Illusion I"
Released: 1992
Format: CD
Genre: Power ballad
Length: 8:57
Label: Geffen Records
Writer(s): Axl Rose
Producer(s): Almario T. Roman

Lyric:

When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain
We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain
But lovers always come and lovers always go
An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away
If we could take the time to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine
So if you want to love me
then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
In the cold November rain

Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone
I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you

Sometimes I need some time...on my
own Sometimes I need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain, ohhh yeahhh
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
Even cold November rain

Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one
You're not the only one

Down from my... ceiling
Drips great noise.
It drips on my head through a hole in the roof.

Behind these two hills heeere...
There's a pool.

And when I'm swimming in
through a tunnel....
I shut my eyes.

Inside their cabin I make sounds
In through the tubes I send this noise.

Behind these two hills heeere...
fall asleep.
And when I flood in green grass of tunnel...
It floods back.

Down from my... ceiling
drips great noise.

It drips on my head through a hole in the roof.

Behind these two hills heeere..
there's a pool.
And when I'm swimming in
through a tunnel....
I shut my eyes.
