Reading a post this morning, Grasshopper stated that this is the 10th anniversary of the Matthew Shepard murder (sorry for the strong words. It is simply that. A murder.).
While we have come a long way since then, I can only hope we will continue on in our lives, not having to hide who and what we are because of fear. I hid in that dark closet for almost 40 years trying to fool myself and everyone else I knew simply because of the fear of others either not accepting or hating me.
This website has been such an incredible help and outlet for so many of us, and I encourage eveyone to say 'hey and thanks' to Timmy for his incredible work and dedication to us all. If you can, I encourage you to make a donation to this site, to help Timmy expand its outreach and allow us to continue on as friends from around the world by coming here.
Let's also remember all of our helps and friends.. those who encourage us to be ourselves just as we are. Please support those people and groups... whether PFLAG, your local GLBT group or a national presence you appreciate... so they can continue on in their work for all of us.
Celebrate your life... embrace your love... Become intimate with your place in forever !!!

Yes Matthew Sheapard was murdered, but it was also a hate crime. It was a shame that it took something like this to bring the gay community together and made the world see the fear that gay boys have to face. I watched the movie they made about it and there was one striking thing that stood out. The courage of the parents to ask the judge to spare that boys life. I can only imagine what kind of man Matthew was and would have been having been raised by parents like that.
Living in the south I am surrounded by the ignorance and hate mongering of the churches. I wonder how many people would change their attatude if they knew the kind of horror that Matthew was put thru. Others have suffered at the hands of ignorance and fear, all we can do is try and educate people and make them see that we are all human beings that deserve the same rights as others.
Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you......

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Such sensational stories are headlines for most of us. But let's don't forget that there are members of this board who have actually lost loved ones this very same way and some who have suffered and lived through these attacks themselves. While we should always honor the memory of those who have suffered and died from this extreme form of prejudice, let's also remember the families and loved ones that bear the scars. There will be news reports and forum posts about this anniversary. It will be a very painful time for some.
You are in our hearts Marc; remember that. :'-(

Paypal cancelled my account with them because of the content of the site. There was no appeal, so there is no way of making donations, I'm afraid.
We moved to a model of funding the server based on other sites which carry advertisements. Part of the terms and conditions of carrying the adverts is that no-one may be encouraged to click the adverts, however tempting that might be.
What I can say is, if an advert is of genuine interest on (say) http://haveballs.net then follow it. If not, then do not. Please do not click "for the sake of it" because our account will be outside the terms of service and we will have it cancelled.
Thank you for the compliments. I have a way to "pay" me. I do believe in paying it forward. Simply help one soul whenever you have the chance to do so.

I was not aware of what you have gone through... and actually other than what you and Paul have said here, I am still unaware of your loss...
I meant absolutely no hurt or pain by what I said... I was just stating something that was important to me at the time.
You have my heart and condolences, and I do hope you can somehow see a little past your loss... and know that your experience coupled with involvement in others' lives... like on this MB can help all of us be aware of the pains we, as a family, live through.
I said you have my heart and condolences... but I am sure you have all of our hearts. You are special to so many.
Paul, thanks for helping me see my thoughtlessness.
Hugs,

You know, death is a thing that may be mentioned. You were not at all thoughtless, you simply did not know. There were boys before Matthew and there will be boys in years to come.
So, while we remember Matthew let's also remember Ricky, and other lads who suffered at the hands of bigots and imbeciles.
