Like other gays, the thing that "made me gay" at a young age was not pornography (which was pretty much impossible for a 12-year old to find in the 1950s) but interest in actual boys. It just happened. No other inducements or coaxing needed. Not stoppable even by overwhelming cultural pressure to be straight.

I knew I was 'something' at 13, but never admitted I was gay until I was 48. But it was damn sure not pornography that made me gay! I never wanted to be and I hated it. The man is a fuckwit.
I've lived in Pennsylvania all my life. (whew, admitting that is nearly as rough as coming out) I grew up in the part of the commonwealth that embraces the values that Rick Santorum holds up to other's as his values. I was so screwed up as a kid because of having heard during my formative years how unnatural and deviant homosexuality was. Whenever I must explain to my friends the societal forces around which I grew up, I must simply reference Rick Santorum and say that was my areas perspective on morality. My friends are in the metro New York area. Their world is so insular on the other end of the social spectrum that they can hardly believe that people like Santorum still exist.
That said, I can't see Santorum actually capturing the Repubican nomination. He caters to a narrow band of people of narrow minds who seem to be very vocal. He is a nut job.
