On IOMFATS and in Hollywood movies, I have seen (and enjoyed) the formula countless times: an abused/cynical/love-starved waif comes, uninvited, into the life of a cynical/lonely/etc. adult, and they become instruments of each other's redemption. What we have here is a bit different. The good character and upbringing of both protagonists is apparent from the very beginning, and the kid's hostile attitude disappears almost before it forms. I can tell this will be a heart-warming father-son love story with some personal growth on both sides. Somehow, I don't think we have seen the last of the worthless mother. I can hardly wait to see how this all plays out.
