Max: welcome to the IOMFATS forum! Regarding your quesiton about the amount of sex in stories, I'd point you to the copy at the top of the Story Shelf page, which begins:

Before you follow this page of story links, I want to make something crystal clear: Stories that are just about sex are ten a penny. The stories that I have found here are stories about love. They involve the growing emotions between young men. They are about the dawning realisation of sexuality, and of people whose outlook on life is different from the established norms. These are young men who have found things sometimes hard to bear, and who have found love.

Most stories had sex in them, some have none, some have a lot. Sounds a bit like life, doesn't it?

I'll leave it at that and let Tim, the webmaster, weigh in with more if he chooses.

To add to Bensiamin's post, this site does not feature stories about adults having sex with minors. Any depictions of sexual acts (if any) in the vast majority of stories on this site are between age-appropriate individuals.

There are a very few involving inter-generational sex, and they are there for a reason. There are a good few where the participants grow into adults. There are a good number where the protagonists are anthropomorphised creatures. Theere are a few SciFi tales. The rest might be called mainstream.

Sex is great when it adds value to the plot. Sex for sex's sake? none that I have accepted, nor written

Inter-generational sex is not a problem per se. However, sex between adults and underage boys IS (for me at any rate). However this gets dressed up, this is the world of the paedophile. Tim is pretty strong about this and he and I have exchanged views where in my opinion (which doesn't count as he is the owner and sole judge of what gets published and what does not) the line has become blurred (not that this happens very often anyway). I would encourage you not to go there.

For me, it's always been how one writes about sex. For young men of the ages in these stories, any sexual experience is likely to be their first, and one's first time can be a truly transformative event; the newness and wonderment of it all and how emotionally overwhelming it can be are things that an author could and should explore. We all know how sex works, about what goes where and does what. Perhaps it's merely the difference between pornography and erotica ... but I think there's a third aspect to writing about sex that can elevate a story: what effect it has on the participants and what greater understanding about oneself that sexual intimacy can introduce. Careful and well-constructed language can make a passage dealing with sex a necessary part of the story and not just a jarring intermission.

This is one of my favorite four sites for well-written, generally very enjoyable, consistently good gay-themed stories.  Each site has slightly differing rules, and while there some other sites with some good stories, my favorite four include consistently good-quality stories.

Sex for the sake of sex rarely helps a story.  There may be exceptions to that, but Timmy sorts for quality as well as stories that tend to have a good technical writing quality to them.  In the stories here, the sex plays a relevant part to the plot and story.

I am not a fan of adult-youth sex.  Once in a while it might be relevant to a story line, but it is not normally so.  The BEST sites tend to keep adult-youth sexual interaction to a necessary minimum.  The key word is necessary.  For a good story, plot, characters, and readibility are important.
