The world has gone mad. Driven by EC privacy legislation the world has now started to require sites to declare that they use cookies, what for, and to give folk the chance to opt out. We are in the process of a full implementation of this ordure. Yes, even while I am on vacation.
You will have seen this as a big black footer on any site page and any forum page. This goes away, perhaps for ever, if you click the Got It! button.
Tedious stuff, ain't it?
I have to do this shit as webmaster, and Megaman has had to implement it, just because some fuckwits think cookies invade privacy.

I was particularly disappointed when I realized that the cookies in this particular case were of the electronic kind and not the edible kind. 
On a more serious note, I'd say that it's just further proof that the governments of the world are made up of idiots, except that it would be an insult to the world's idiots.

Unfortunately Timmy a good many organizations have been abusing the use of Cookies, Microsoft notably amongst them with its' current release of the Windows Operating System; this has prompted the European Union to respond as it has in the past forcing compliance with responsible conduct. The small web-master such as yourself always seems to get caught in the middle somehow and usually suffers greatly because of it.
I've made the jump to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on my Server and the four machines on my home Network, and now sorely wish I hadn't, this not-with-standing recent Windows 7 and 8 Updates (each of which can be uninstalled) that violate users' privacy out of the wazoo bringing them in line with new policy implementations under Windows 10. I'm getting too old for this crap, with this most recent upgrade likely being my last ever, so having done so (it was free after all) I'll live with it for the precious little I actually do on the computer any more; it not being like I have to use them for my work in order to pay the bills thank God!
In the late seventies and early eighties I found it amusing that the emerging growth industries were that of protecting ourselves from ourselves in the areas of public policy, healthcare, recreation and personal services. It is sort of ironic that protecting ourselves from Microsoft and Windows has now become the newest growth industry in of itself, with a beggar's list of new, and emerging, applications all designed to aid the end-user in turning on or off sundry features which for one reason or another violate someone's privacy or rights, not necessarily yours or mine today mind you, possibly next week though, or maybe never, who knows; amongst these are copious Cookies that are used to track, implement, enable or disable, God knows all what, to what purpose and for whom; and therein Timmy lies the root of your problem and that of so many other small entrepreneurs, and why the European Union has once again acted; and thank God that they have because they alone seem to be watching when no one else seems to care, and haven't done for a good long time.

I'm not going to say I've turned them all off - as I'm not good enough to be certain. However, I'd strongly advise anyone installing Windows 10 to do a custom install where you can turn off the spying dodahs. The idea of a custom install may put folk off, but actually, you really do not need to be an expert, there aren't that many questions/matters to decide and one does not need to be a rocket scientist to tick the right boxes.
Failing that, they can all be turned off later and there are several articles telling one how to go about it.

Last time I checked it takes navigating to at least 13 different locations just to shut down the basic Win10 tracking devices, and I'm sure there are more.
I hope somebody will be kind and clever enough to write a "Garbage Smashers on the Detention Level" app with the single button: "SHUT THEM ALL DOWN!"

Ran across this a few moments ago; in line with the evolving nature of this thread I thought I should share it here rather than start a new discussion:

If true, and at this stage I've no reason to doubt George, the implications of enabling a feature such as this in a household with teenaged children is absolutely mind-boggling.
My next move will be to find where the "Activity Log" is kept and view what it has stored about my computer use and behaviour since upgrading to Windows 10; L love my porn and I especially love reading erotic literature, so this should prove to be quite illuminating.

This is really frightening stuff; and to think that Microsoft may actually get away with this too... I simply do not want to go there. This not supposed to be about trashing Microsoft, it's about our children and protecting them from abuses of authority, and this latest feature from Microsoft has to top of that list. I'm talking about protecting ALL of our children, not just the LGBTQ ones, all of them.

Update: A couple of things to know before we all go off half-cocked about the foregoing shameful feature added to Windows 10.
During installation, or at some point thereafter, the primary user (Administrator Account) has to apparently establish the "Family" group. You only get to do this if when creating each individual User Account you elect to link that account to a specific Microsoft Account such as live.com, outlook.com, hotmail.com etc.
It is the linking of these User Accounts to the Microsoft Account and using that account as that user's log-in to Windows 10 that enables the "Activity Log" feature.
If you elect at installation, or any time creating new User Accounts to use a "Stand-alone Account" rather than a "Microsoft Account" your computer is immune to this heinous new feature. So, if you used any one of your existing Microsoft Accounts, or created one especially for these purposes, your computer has been compromised. If you elected to create Stand-alone User Accounts for each and every user on your system, you are safe. If you DID USE yours, and others' Microsoft Accounts, your only recourse is to wipe out those accounts one, by one and start over, firstly with the Primary User, and then the others, electing each and every time thereafter to use a Stand-alone Account.
I knew there had to be a reason why I have so vigorously objected Microsoft's renewed attempt to get me to log-in to the Internet when logging-in to Windows, or Office, or whatever. Now I know why.

Even aside the Family logging feature. Microsoft gives nothing away free. When they offered an entire operating system for free, my alarm bells rang. A little researching turned me off 10 quickly.

Her Oatmeal/Raisin and the Macadamia/Bitter-sweet Chocolate are both to die for; pricey yes, none-the-less for it simply wonderful. Too bad the Retail stores (all franchises apparently) are slowly disappearing from the local landscape.
