When this site started, when almost all gay story sites started, the tales were 100% about the realtionship and often 95% about raunchy sex. Over the past few years the focus both here and elsewhere has changed. Sex, important in its way, has become more a 'yes, so that happens' event, and the plot has come more into the foreground.
Am I right that Geron Kees was the first author here to introduce us to a pastime that was as imporatant, at least as important, as his characters, with Rules of the Road? Or was it Andrew Foote with Canals and Loneliness? Or did someone break that ground here before them?
I thought I was being a bit different with "Hello Buoys!" but I look at it now and don't think I was, not at all. The two authors above beat me to it. Come to that, so did Rick Beck where the scene matters more than the cast in many ways and many stories.
I know I was beaten to the punch in 2012 by Jesse D publishing elsewhere with Singletrack Mind. Now he's here, starting today. Dammit, he has a sport and skilled occupation that take centre stage! I think I may be jealous!
Help me scour the site, please. Find me the tales where the gay relationship is important, but plays second fiddle to the plot, and ideally where the plot is about a sport, occupation, or pastime. And why not let's discuss those tales, those I'm listing above and the new ones you find and work out why they work today and whether they would have worked in "our world" 20 years ago.
