I have had a policy for a while where I don't discriminate or insult individuals but I will insult or judge a specific group or label. Labels don't actually mean a whole lot so by insult a label really I feel I'm insulting nothingness. I know when someone insults a label that we associate with ourselves we have a tendancy to take it personally, so if someone were to throw insults at a bunch of labels, all of which we associated with ourselves it does have the potential to hurt even when it isn't meant.
Personally while the nature of certain groups can irk me, I never judge an individual based on them belonging to a certain group. Personally I don't like the way gay guys behave, but I think I can say that most of the people here lack those traits that I consider defining characteristics of the "gay" label and even if someone were to behave in a stereotypically gay way, I wouldn't judge them for that, unless of course the behaviour has a negative impact on me.
I insult stereotypes, stereotypes that in reality probably don't exist and that in reality definately don't apply to each and every case. I have a thing against "Southern Baptists" for one, but does that mean I don't like smith and his family? Of course not, I think smith is a wonderful young man and obviously must have a wonderful family too. I think that gay guys that dance are silly for perpuating stereotypes, yet I love Andy as one of the best friends I've made through this message board, I didn't end a friendship with such a great guy even though he fit the label and characteristics of a group I didn't like.
I'm not sure what I'm getting at here, just sort of rambling and perhaps hoping for a response. But discrimination is how humans and animals look out for their own, their family's and their species' interests. If there was no discrimination at all, then we would eat cow, either that or we'd kill humans to produce feed for animals. If there was no discrimination we wouldn't have family bonds that hold us close together, we wouldn't have countries and we wouldn't even be able to have a functional democratic society as no-one would be able to make a choice between all the candidates!
Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.
