Back in High School (and currently) I would (and have) often write (and written) songs for small combos and Jazz Big Bands. These compositions were full arrangements of original tunes. When I got here (college) I was (but had expected to be) blown away by the amount of AWESOME talent! I was certain there was no chance I would EVER get one of my pieces in front of a large Ensemble again!

But, as it turns out, this would not be the case!

I went to see the proffesor of Jazz studies here because I had a question about notation and when he noticed that the song I was asking him about was written by me he asked if it was for a class. I replied that it wasn't and that I was merely doing it for fun. (Which was true for I really do enjoy composing, believe it or not.) Anyway, he was mildly impressed and suggested that - when it's finished - I bring it to a Jazz Workshop rehearsal and he'd have his band play it!

How cool is that? An upper college-level band playing an original chart of mine! Man, I was (and to some extent still am) ecstatic. Now I just have to finish it (ha!).
