An old man is walking down a beach. There has been a terrible storm the previous night, and thousands of starfish have been washed up on the shore. The man is placing them one by one in the water when a younger man walks up to him and asks, "What are you doing?". The old man answers "I'm placing the starfish back in the water." "Why? You'll never get them all in time before they die, so why bother at all? Who does it matter to?", the young man asks in reply. The old man picks up a small starfish and places it in the water and says, "It matters to her".
