I don't know how many have heard of this show that used to be on in the late 80s, made in Canada, it was shown internationally in Australia (and possibly other places) and dealt with a variety of teen issues such as AIDS, teen pregnancy, relationships and other stuff that other shows were afraid to deal with.

2002 the new series began, with all the old characters grown up and a bunch of new characters, including the kids of the old characters. Again it deals with issues that many shows are afraid to even touch, due to censorship or whatever- drugs, internet, porn, and, as I just found out a few minutes ago, even sexuality.

I started watching the new series back in Aus, then after missing a few episodes I got out of the swing of things, however, randomly surfing the internet, I decided to check out how the show was going, because it interested me and I thought potentially it might deal with sexuality and indeed it has. Aparantly the fourth and fifth episodes in the third series focus a lot on one of the characters (although the 14th episode in the second series also seems to deal with it), I couldn't find a full lesson synopsis, but there is a school teacher lesson plan based around the episode http://www.degrassi.tv/fan/fan-guide-ep304-5.html here, with the main website being found at http://www.degrassi.tv

I just thought I'd share this, because it is another small step forward, if people like my 13 year old brother are watching shows like this, then it will not only help tolerance in general rise, but might make the sibling and friend coming out process a lot easier.

Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.
