OK, I know it isn't April first, but I made a few very strange observations while out on the town this afternoon.
First, I took my wife's car to a place that specializes in "Japanese reconditioned and rebuilt engines" because her car needs a new engine. The place even had a Japanese name. So why is it that everyone I saw working there was Mexican?
Then I stopped at Krispy Kreme and bought a dozen doughnuts. Nothing else, just a dozen doughnuts. Now the answer seemed pretty obvious to me, but obviously not to the guy at the register who asked "Is this for here or to go?" Do they really have people who, by themselves, purchase and eat 12 doughnuts at a time, especially without having anything to drink?
Finally, I am standing at the member services counter at Costco (a large warehouse membership store that seels stuff cheap). The guy in front of me is purchasing a membership and inquires to the lady selling the memberships about why they need his driver's licesne number. She replies that it is for identification purposes if he wishes to write a check to pay for his purchases. The man informes her "I NEVER pay for anything with a check. I ALWAYS use American Express." The lady then processes his membership without the license number and asks "How will you be paying for this today?" In this case (unlike above) the stupid question really did need to be asked because the man replied "Mastercard." And that wasn't even the punchline. The lady informs him that the only credit card they accept is American Express. He realizes that he has indeed left home without it and pulls out his checkbook...

Think good thoughts,
