Neph here. I was told that some inapproriate remarks had been made here concerning Grasshopper's writing. Jamie has such a writing talent that it needs no commendation from me or anyone else, because you just have to read his stories and his talent proclaims itself with force and assurance. I wish I had one tenth of his creative and artistic ability. (Well, I can dream, can't I?)

However, when it is claimed that his work is pornopgraphy I feel compelled to rush to defend. I looked the word up in an online dictionary and found the following definition:

creative activity (writing or pictures or films etc.) of no literary or artistic value other than to stimulate sexual desire

If anybody thinks that Grasshopper's creative activity is "of no literary or artistic value" and that its only purpose is "to stimulate sexual desire" then they thereby declare that they are devoid of any real ability to appreciate good writing. (Either that, or they were just being bloody-minded.)

It is true that there is sexual innuendo in many of Grasshopper's stories, but it is never more than that - suggestive, gentle, tasteful, allusive. But the purpose of his stories is to depict emotions and characters: the stories would be every bit as good as they are if they had no sexual allusions whatsoever!

He has a remarkable talent. It is to be hoped that he will be able to develop this talent over the years. He has the ability to become a truly prodigious writer. I think there must be thousands of people "out there" who delight in Jamie's stories and find in them emotional support and a kind of self-identification that is a sign of true creative ability.

Forgive this intrusion, but that was something I just wanted to get off my chest.
