It happened rather suddenly and he was supposed to tell you this himself. Today, at about 2 pm central standard time, USA, Sam went under the surgeon's knife. He was still in the operating room when I had to leave to get ready for work. His mother is with him, so I trust he will be alright. The surgery is a laser procedure to remove five new tumors, thankfully of a different nature than the one in his femur. He is having one burned off of his tail bone and four burned off the inner facing of the illium (the bony proturburance of the hip, part of the pelvis). This procedure is somewhat invasive. He was very worried yesterday when he was informed of the procedure and all last night he was anxious. He was much more relaxed this morning, although he did appear tired. Seems some Tygers hunt at night.
He was in better spirits when the anestesiologist put him under, but he did hold my hand very tightly all the way into the operating prep room, where I had to leave him. From all indications from the medical staff, Sammy was in fine enough physical condition, aside from being underweight. Everything looks like it will go well. He asked me to tell his water brothers that he's fighting for them, will miss them while he's in recovery and that he'll be thinking of them in the days to come.
I must confess, I am worried about him. This last three weeks has been hell on him. Hopefully, his spirits will rise some after these tumors are dealt with. The one in his femur is still the big concern. Plans are in the works to deal with that one as well, but this hurdle must be dealt with first. He's tough and strong. He will get through this.
Cya on the other side, my brothers,
D'Artagnon
It's not the wolf you see you should fear, but all the ones he howls with. Don't be afraid of the song, but don't piss off the choir.
