The pictures of the jacaranda tree that I posted last week were taken looking east. In the same street, looking west, is a tree of a different kind. Its branches completely cover the road, affording very welcome shade in the summer. In the autumn/winter it drops an enormous amount of berries on the sidewalk, sometimes making it slippery.

Here are two pictures of the tree.
Does anyone have any idea what its name is?

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)
