Either I am becoming insane (as my wife and kids often allege) or Timmy has deleted his thread announcing withdrawal of the 'edit' function.
I made what I hope was a balanced and considered reply to that post, and in the context of what has been happening on the Board, I really would appreciate an equally balanced and considered response.
I honestly think that there has been some over-hyping here. I don't defend what Marc said; there can be no doubt that he was wrong to act as he did.
What we need to bear in mind is the fact that trauma is not just mind-bending, it can be mind-changing. I speak from personal experience; the stress of my profession led to what used to be called a 'nervous breakdown' many years ago. Ever since, I have relied on medication to enable me to function more or less normally. Marc's problem is that one of the two major traumas in his life involved medication, and he is still deeply scarred by that experience - so medication terrifies him. At the moment, he needs medication desperately, and hopefully he will soon accept it. In the meantime, he needs a little understanding; in fact, he needs this site more than anyone else I can think of.
All I'm asking for is the will to understand; I'm not suggesting that anyone is wrong for disagreeing with Marc; there's absolutely no reason why he should be exempt from disagreement. I just feel that in the recent exchanges, much more could have been achieved off-board than on-board. I'm no bleeding heart - I've advised Marc in an e-mail not to play the sympathy card, as it tends to be counter-productive. But Marc needs this place as much as our younger posters do - as much as I do - and if, in a group such as ours, we expect tolerance and understanding, we should be prepared to extend it to others.
I love this place, and Marc is part of it. Can't we just go back to being friends? After all, I can, and I doubt whether anyone else has fought with Marc more intensely and more often than I have!
For a' that an' a' that,
It's comin' yet for a' that,
That man tae man, the worrld o'er
Shall brithers be, for a' that.
