I'm sorry, but I can no longer sit completely silent. This mad man we currently have as a president is sounding more and more like those he pretends are so evil that they must be destroyed. Do not get me wrong. Terrorism in any form is deplorable. And as such, should be rooted out and prevented. And anyone who thinks killing in the name of a merciful and beneficient God has obviously not read the book they claim to use as basis for their worship. Nor have they read history, philosophy, comedy, or anything remotely considered part of the "humanities," such as they are.
In a speach given on the day we use to remember our Independance (a day my honoured collegues across the pond refer to as their Thanksgiving day, only partly in jest), this brazen, dictatorial, self-righteous idealogue said, not in so many words, that his religion was better than someone elses religion and because of that he has the right to beat them up to spread democracy.
Does anyone else not see the utter absurdity in this? Christianity and Islam both profess to worship the same God, as does Judeaism. How can one be any more right enough to justify the genocide of another. Muslims, for the most part are very tolerant people if you remember the golden rule. Leave them alone and they'll happily go about their own business, which has been, for centuries, trying to kill each other.
Yet we waste the lives of our best and brightest, American, British, Australian, European, all of us, just to satisfy one crazy, delusional Texan's lust for battle glory in an age when we're supposed to be beyond such goals in our military campaigns. What happened to doing the honourable thing and just letting nature take its course?
I just don't see it, my brothers. Maybe I'm alone in thinking that this tin-pot dictator we elected (under rather dubious circumstances that I still question) to our highest office might be a little out of touch with reality and the depth and gravity of the situation he has plunged our world in. Maybe I'm just spouting off because I think that when you see something that is obviously wrong you should say something about it, before more lives are lost.
I just don't know anymore. Our young men, those that visit this site for advice and council should know that not every one of us feels the blind urge to follow the herd. They should look very carefully at the leaders we choose, not just for issues that affect us as gay citizens of the world, but for the truth behind what goes on behind the scenes on this our only planet.
Maybe all it takes is one or two eyes cast in the right direction to realize that following those who say killing for a God, a religion, or even some sort of personally glorifying ideal is exactly what it is: fascism of a kind that makes the Nazi's look like school children selling candy door to door to help finance a new gymnasium.
Then again, I'm a minority. I'm just one man. I'm just one voice. In order to penetrate the rhetoric and sophisticated ideology applied here might just need a choir of those that look to the light and question it, and not just go blind in its radiance.
What do you think?
It's not the wolf you see you should fear, but all the ones he howls with. Don't be afraid of the song, but don't piss off the choir.
