Only 10 out of 10500 athletes in Beijing are open homosexuals (according to Outsports.com).
Authors of the article think, that figures could be higher, but many athletes are afraid to come out. The reason is the possible subsequent pressure from media, which could remarkably influence their performance, psychics or focus. Among that 10 athletes, there are 9 women and only 1 man: Matthew Mitcham from Australia. Outsports.com estimates that there could be as many as 1000 homosexual athletes in Beijing.
