Several days ago i heard friends talk about a (possible?) hate crime that occured in a popular part of town. Midtown is the gay part of town. Shops, bars, restaurants, etc. that welcome the gay community are all located within a mile radius of Blake's in the park (the bar where the incident happened). I have been to the bar mentioned in the article and i can't imagine how this happened. The vitim's story sounds a little confusing. No doubt he was beat up, but was it a hate crime? Or was he too drunk that he got in a fight with some guys (gay guys) and is just making a big fuss about it by saying he was beaten up for being gay?

The area where the guy said he was attacked is very well lit. The bar has an entrance back there, also it is a parking lot. The time the incident took place was around midnight, which i know, from experience, people are just getting there to watch the nightly drag show. In the report he said some guys approached him and asked him if he was gay. He answered yes and the guys procceded to beat him up. They took him behind a dumpster and left him there. Later he got up and went to the security officer at the door, which filled a report to police. However, some parts of his story just don't add up. After all, report says he was heavily intoxicated and was even kicked out of the bar for being too drunk.

The community is shocked by the attack. Midtown is a well known part of town. It is no secret midtown is gay-town. As a consequence of the attack, people feel unsafe walking in an area, most people would say, considered safe to be yourself.

What do you guys think? Would you call this a hate crime?

Georgia law doesn't have hate crime laws based on sexual orientation. However, the police department in this county does report bias crimes. The attack is still under investigation.

You don't love someone because they are beautiful, they are beautiful because you love them.
