By Brody Levesque | WASHINGTON DC -- Today in my homeland we celebrate the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act (known today as the Constitution Act), which united three British colonies into a single country creating Canada, within the British Empire.

For years we Canadians referred to it as Dominion Day, the name was changed in 1982, the year that we gained our full independence from the UK.
Most communities across Canada will host organised celebrations with parades, carnivals, festivals, barbecues, and fireworks plus free musical concerts. There really is no standard for celebration of Canada Day but the principle focus is our national capital, Ottawa, Ontario, where large concerts are held on Parliament Hill, as well as other parks around the city.

This year the Duke Of Cambridge, Prince William, and his wife Catherine will attend the celebrations along with Prime Minister, Stephen Harper.
