Those of you staying current with religious developments re: LGBTQ rights will know that the latest news is the decision taken by the Church of England on same-sex marriage.

The news media has tended to cover it along the lines of "no gay marriage, only blessings of civil marriages."

That's partially accurate, and very much incomplete. Paul Walker is a retired C of E priest who writes regularly on Medium, and he has penned a very insightful analysis. Think of it as an inside view. It is worth reading even if your not a member of C of E, because it illustrates how full equality is or is not taking place.

This decision will require us to update the chart on the Religion and Homosexuality page, as it formalizes a NO position of same-sex marriage, which heretofore has been allowed to happen based on local decisions.

As Walker points out, history will not be kind to the Bishops in the C of E over this decision, and it is likely to come with significant political consequences.

You can read Paul Walker's article on Medium here.

You also have to love the fact that Walker ends his piece with a quote from Pink Floyd!
